I am excited to introduce myself as DGA/SFA’s new education coordinator for Central Minnesota. I am really looking forward to this new adventure!

My husband, Nate, and I purchased our farm in 2002 from his dad, Fred. Nate is the third generation on this farm. His grandpa, Kenneth, purchased the farm in 1935. He milked six Guernsey cows and farmed 160 acres. Today we currently milk 100 cows and we farm 270 acres. We also rent an additional 100 acres. Our cows are a three-way cross of Guernsey/Red Holstein/Norwegian Red. Walter Dairy was certified organic in 2013 and we currently ship our milk to Organic Valley.

Nate and I have two children who are very active in helping on the farm. Our daughter, Laureen, is 15 years old. She loves dairy judging, dancing, and showing dairy cows. Our son, Levi, is 11 years old. He loves hunting, fishing, and showing cows and chickens. In my free time I enjoy traveling to new places and seeing new things.

I am passionate about the Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship program because I have experienced a successful apprenticeship on our farm. We had an apprentice from April of 2016 until April 2018. It was a great experience and we look forward to doing it again. This program is our future in dairy and I am so excited to be part of it!
