Organization Summary: Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship (DGA) is a dynamic 501c3 organization that utilizes formal Apprenticeship in partnership with diverse stakeholders to train a new workforce in regenerative agriculture. The two year National Apprenticeship in Managed Grazing Dairy Production is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor. It combines full time on-farm training under an approved employer/Mentor with related online coursework, business planning services, peer networking, and opportunities for advancement.
DGA seeks to hire a new Instructor for its online school, Managed Grazing Innovation Center (MGIC) , which offers custom courses that have been developed to supplement Apprentice training and are also open to the public. This FTE Instructor is anticipated to join DGA staff in a remote work environment beginning August 1, 2022.

Position Summary: The Instructor’s primary responsibility is to update and deliver MGIC classes that cover topics in dairy herd health, managed grazing systems, soil and water management, and farm business management. The classes are currently delivered through Moodle and Zoom virtual platforms and include both synchronous and asynchronous activities. They are offered as 12-week sessions during spring and fall terms. This position will also assist with the development and delivery of additional resources for DGA’s Mentors, Apprentices, and Journeyworkers. DGA strives to have innovative and up-to-date content that will drive profitability and performance of grazing dairies. Special attention to delivering and assessing performance is critical within an active student engagement platform.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update and implement relevant and progressive curriculum.
  • Deliver high quality and engaging content in a virtual setting
  • Create performance assessments aligned with course competencies
  • Promote student success through timely communication and technical feedback
  • Create a dynamic class culture through synchronous instruction and group interaction
  • Work as a team member to contribute to an innovative and collaborative staff culture
  • Identify innovative educational content to be presented to other participants in the DGA outside of the classes
  • Contribute to conceptualizing grant proposals that will provide additional resources to DGA participants and funding to MGIC

Work Relationships and Scope: Reports directly to the Executive Director. Also works closely with DGA staff and partners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or Dairy Science, with emphasis on managed grazing systems
  • At least five years of related experience.
  • Excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills.
  • Good people-management and administrative skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
  • Experience or aptitude for coaching, facilitation, and interpersonal communications.
  • Prefer experience or aptitude for using online learning management systems (such as Moodle, Blackboard, Google Classroom, etc.) to deliver instruction.

Working Conditions: MGIC is an online school within DGA that does not have a physical location. This is a remote office position that requires access to high speed Internet.

Equipment Operated: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and etc. Access to internet is required.

Compensation: Starting compensation is $52,800, which includes a negotiable $45,000 base salary and an additional monthly healthcare stipend of $650. There is incentive/ opportunity to grow with the position and the organization.
