Hosted by Emanuel and Leslie Roth,
Lorreda Dairy. Plan to arrive for an 11 am discussion.
Many of you will recall that the Roths were in the dairy business a few years back but dispersed the herd in 2017 and took
some time off. The good news is that they are now back on the farm and have been milking since March, 2020.
Emanuel says the pastures are like most in the area – dry and getting short. This will give us the opportunity to discuss
the farm’s plans for dealing with short forage supplies in the coming months. We can also hear about pasture
improvements made since returning to the farm as well as improvements still planned for the future.
A newly constructed compost pack barn will also be of interest to the group. Emanuel will tell us how he plans to utilize
this new facility in a pasture-based system. We can discuss pros and cons, and the opportunities presented by a housing
addition to a grazing dairy.
It's been awhile since we have had the opportunity to visit Lorreda and I hope you share my anticipation for doing so
again. I look forward to seeing you on the 22nd!
