Monthly pasture walk, May 12, 2017. Starts at 11:00 am
This event will be host by David and Andrea Hirschler. The Hirschlers manage 272 crossbred cows on 349 acres. The farm has recently transitioned to organic production with shipments to Organic Valley beginning in the fall of 2016. The Hirschlers’ forage program utilizes perennial ryegrass, fescue, orchardgrass, and clover. For fly control, they use a Spalding Cow Vac. Lunch is planned for the group and our hosts ask that you bring a lawn chair.
Directions to the Hirschler Dairy: Traveling on I-44 Hwy west of Springfield, take the Halltown exit (Exit 58) and go north on Hwy Z toward Lawrenceburg. Continue on Z past Lawrenceburg for about 1.5 miles to County Rd 1210. Turn right on 1210 and go to the end of the road, then turn left on Lawrence 2000, Dade 202 (this road runs on the Lawrence/Dade County line). Take Dade 202 to the farm on the north side of the road (just past the tower). The address is 839 East Dade 202, Everton.
