On-Farm Technology

The Dairy Grazing Alliance’s On-Farm Technology program is designed to help graziers measure their impact, improve decision-making, and strengthen the grass-based marketplace. By connecting farmers with practical, proven tools, the program ensures technology serves the needs of graziers—
not the other way around.

About PaddockTrac

We believe technology should work for farmers, supporting managed dairy systems in ways that build efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. PaddockTrac is one of these tools.

First piloted in 2021 by Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship and the University of Missouri, PaddockTrac helps farmers make proactive grazing decisions.

PaddockTrac is an innovative portable device that attaches to an ATV and uses sonar to take 50 readings of forage density per second. The data is processed through a smartphone app and compiled into an online grazing wedge, providing accurate visualizations of pasture feed availability. By giving graziers clearer insight, confidence, and control over their management, PaddockTrac helps improve grazing decisions and supports proactive, efficient pasture management.
