Kate grew up in western Maine where her first job was working on a small berry and vegetable farm. She left her home state to go to college at the University of Vermont where she studied Ecological Agriculture. During college she started working at Shelburne Farms, first hired to transport the milk from the dairy to the creamery, and eventually started making cheese. Over the next seventeen years Kate made cheese for a number of farmstead operations throughout Vermont. Most recently she and her partner had their own small herd of Jersey cows and turned all of that milk into cheese. Kate moved back to her hometown in Maine in the fall of 2023 and is thrilled to be working as the DGA New England Education Coordinator.
